Natural Gourmet Institute 35th year anniversary

Last Friday I went to the 35th year anniversary party at Natural Gourmet Institute.
Natural Gourmet Institute
http://www.naturalgourmetschool.com
I graduated there 2.5 years ago.
I moved to NYC for this cooking school and had no idea how long I would stay.
But this day, I went back to school to celebrate their 35th anniversary.
I haven't gone back there for long time but when I got there I could go back the time I was there.
When I was there, my English was worse than now and had to make effort so much to keep up with all the classes. But all the classmates and chefs were so nice to me and I really enjoyed studying there.
When I went into the one room where we had graduation party. I remember that when I had speech there I couldn't stop crying. My mom was there from Japan and I remember that I said to everyone "It's hard to say since here is my mom from Japan but I want to stay in NYC!!!" And at that time I had no idea I could stay here but after almost 3 years and I'm still in NYC.
Now I'm so busy at work and I didn't have much time to go back to past but this place was my start point of life in NYC. And I had hard time sometimes but I survived. I was so glad to go back there in this timing. And enjoyed party a lot!!
Also there was my friend Sachiko who graduated NGI before me and she brought tons of cupcake toppers!!

That was the biggest hit in entire night!!

Good & Evil Chocolate by Eclat

On November 8th, I went to ardesia to celebrate the debut of Good & Evil chocolate.
Ardesia
This chocolate is made by Eric Ripert, Anthony Bourdain and Christopher Curtin from Eclat.
I had no idea how it tastes before but it was so good chocolate!! Not too sweet and can get cocoa flavor as much as possible. More bite makes more flavors.
It was interesting experience!! And I tried more chocolates from Eclat but they were all so good!! And my favorite was beer chocolate.. it was amazing!!!
Eclat is the chocolatier in West Chester, PA.
Thank you so much Chef Chris for inviting me!!! It was really amazing night!!!

Max Brenner Chocolate in NYC

There is one chocolate shop close to Union Square.
Max Brenner Chocolate by the bald man
http://www.maxbrenner.com/home.aspx
My friend took me there and we had chocolate fondu there.
It was fun to make burn on marshmallows and dip into chocolate.
You can choose 3 kinds of chocolate from milk, dark, caramel and white.
So you can try many flavors with many ingredients.
It will be good desserts in cold winter in NYC!!!

Okonomiyaki truck in NYC

A few days ago I tried Okonomiyaki from Okadaman truck!!
Because I watched this video...
I went there with my coworker who I showed how to cook Okonomiyaki before.
It was on 47th street between Park and Madison avenue.
They had Okonomiyaki, Yakisoba and Kara-age which is Japanese fried chicken.
From my experience, most of non-Japanese likes Okonomiyaki and Kara-age so I think it was good choice of menu. And I was so curious about it because owner isn't Japanese!!
Of course there wasn't owner that day but it was good to try truck Japanese food in NY!!

And we tried Okonomiyaki and Kara-age lunch combo and Yakisoba combo.
Both of them were lack of veggies for me.
So it was more like pancake. When I explain about Okonomiyaki, I say "Japanese cabbage pancake" so it makes sense but I prefer more cabbage inside.
But Kara-age was good:)

Mary, which did you like Okadaman's or my Okonomiyaki??
