Today on my day off, it was really nice weather outside.
I went to Angelika film theater to see "The Artist".
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O8K9AZcSQJE
Now, many movie awards are talking about this movie and today this got nominated to Oscar Award for this year. And I also watched Golden Globe awards too and they won many awards.
"Is it that good?" That was my feeling before I saw.
I tried not to expect too much but when the show started...
That was so fun. It gave me many excitement a little by little in many way. I haven't seen silent movie for long time but this movie didn't need any voice. Not at all!!! And it made us in the film at once!!!
It was so different from other movie. It was so cute movie.
But this silent movie could be made because we experienced many movies with voices, sounds and many special effects. That's why it's special I think.
And the dog was sooooo cute, amazing and important!! I love it!!
Now I'm a big fan of you, Uggie!!!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uggie
Also music was great!!!! That made this movie perfect I think!!! I'm sure I will get a sound track CD!! (I'm not a download person yet... )
Sometimes, I get different impressions if I see movie in different languages but this one, you don't need to worry about it. Just enjoy this world of the artist!!!
Welcome to my page!!
I'm gonna share my and our experiences in NY as Japanese from today. For me life in NY is so much fun!! Many things are different from Japan and many things are the same... lol
Most of topics might be food though...
I hope you can enjoy:)

DAVIDs TEA
A few days ago my coworker told me about new tea place in Greenwich village.
DAVIDs TEA
http://www.davidstea.com/
But I didn't remember exact location but last night I just passed by that shop.
The outside wasn't look like tea shop but Yogurt place which my coworker told me and it was like that.
The inside was so clean and so pop. There were so many kinds of interesting flavors of tea. And I liked to see their tea pots, mugs and other tools for the tea.
I tried citrus oolong. And it was very strong flavor of citrus and I couldn't tell that was oolong. But it was good.
There are many Argo tea in Manhattan these days but they are also colorful and pop inside.
Coffee places are usually more simple or natural color. What is this difference?? Very interesting.
My image of tea is more natural color. Maybe because I have more Japanese tea image??
I will look for next tea place and see how they will show us their new shop!! :)

The Gowanus Art Fair in Brooklyn
Last night I had a chance to go to The Gowanus Art Fair close to my home.
http://www.thecollectivebk.blogspot.com/
I knew this event because a friend of mine who is studying acting in NY and he had play on the stage that night.
There were acting, photography, music, magic and many other arts.
What I like in NY is there are many events really artistic. And they welcome everyone even who is not artists or who doesn't know about art like me.
My friend Luca was on stage and he wasn't who I knew last night.
This was the first time to see him acting. Before he explained how he was working for getting different characters. And I imagined what he said and I thought I understood but I didn't. I like to see movies and I saw many characters and also I saw one person became many different characters in different movies but I didn't know them as a person. So it was different experience for me. Watching someone I know on the stage as different person... It was really interesting... And congrats for your stage, Luca!! That was awesome:)
Also I didn't know that venue even it was only one stop by subway from my home.

I hadn't be there at night so I was surprised to see the view around there was quite awesome!!
I don't want to walk around there by myself if there is no event but because of that event there were many people so I felt safer than usual. And I left there early so everyone came there around that time. I'm so curious about what happened after I left. But still I enjoyed it enough:)

Mile End Delicatessen in Brooklyn
There was the restaurant which always has line on Sunday afternoon.
Mile End Delicatessen
http://www.mileendbrooklyn.com/
I always tried to go there but I finish work until 3 pm and they close at 4 so I couldn't try their brunch.
But suddenly I realized that I can go there on weekday for lunch after work then there won't be line.
And this my guess was right!!
Finally I could go there for lunch.
I had "beef on weck" which was wagyu sandwiches with horseradish.
The beef was really good with thin slice!! If you don't like meat it will be hard to go there but if you like meat, definitely you will like there. The menu is really simple but you can tell they are using good meat.
But the restaurant is really small and it's popular so you may need to wait for a while!! But it will be worth it!!

Good Restaurant in NY
I went to Good Restaurant last week.
When I told this my friends everyone asked me "And.... which restaurant?"
So.... The restaurant's name was "Good Restaurant!!"
http://www.goodrestaurantnyc.com/
It was really cute restaurant. My friend who went there together said that the outside and inside have different impression. And I agreed that. The outside seems like very casual restaurant but inside is fancier.
The food was good.
We ordered quick lunch course. So there were soup of the day, entree and cookie.
The soup of the day that day was black bean soup. It was really thick and filling. I thought it was like Japanese "zenzai" which is sweet azuki bean soup with rice cake. It wasn't sweet but the texture was like that which I like.
The entree, we could choose from salad, sandwiches and pasta. So I chose peanut chicken salad.
It was really big salad with deep fried chicken with peanut and panko crumb. I really liked this combination. And dressing was made with jalapeno. That was so good:)
And there were many desserts on the menu so I wanted to try but already there was cookie in this menu and the all of potion was really big so I couldn't try any of desserts. But the cookie was really crunchy and good too. It was not like American chewy chocolate chip cookies but the texture and taste like macaroon from country side of France not the Parisian one.
Also when I left there I asked if I can take pictures in the restaurant and the waiter told me "Daijobu!!" (means OK in Japanese) so I asked him if he speaks Japanese and he said yes. Actually his Japanese was pretty good. And he told me that he used to work at Tokyo Disney Land for a few years.
Sometimes I see someone who had experiences to live in Japan and everyone has different job in Japan so it's so interesting for me how they worked in Japan as non-Japanese.
Anyway I'd love to go back there sometime soon:)
"Good Restaurant" was good actually:)

Sottocasa Pizzeria
Today I went to Sottocasa Pizzeria with my friends.
http://www.sottocasanyc.com/sottocasa/home.html
Sometimes I take 63 bus from Atlantic ave and Smith street. And in front of the station the new pizzeria has opened a few months ago.
I always wanted to go there but I didn't have chance but today, we just passed by and just went there!!
There is big oven in the restaurant and I liked the inside of restaurant.
Their name of special pizzas are someone's name but some of them were hard to pronounce for me...
Now I forgot how to pronounce what I had today already. But it was with mozzarella cheese, caramelized onion and anchovy. That was really interesting flavor for me but so good!!!
And when I was taking the pictures of food "as usual", I forgot what she said but my friend commented something about it so I told her "Of course I take pictures because I'm Japanese!!" then the couple who was sitting next to us laughed about what I said... it was funny.
I started to take pictures of food because I was interested in food. And I didn't think it's because I'm Japanese. But after I moved here, I knew that most of Japanese girls are taking pictures everywhere!!
So I had to accept this fact... lol
Sometimes there are moments that I realize how I am Japanese. And sometimes I am surprised by myself. This is what is important to live in other countries. And I love it!!! :)
Thank you Chandler and Alex for coming all the way to Brooklyn!!
It was so fun to talk with you two:) I wish we could stay a little bit longer there though.
Next time, I should search for the hours before, or going to Manhattan!!!

Serbian Christmas
Last night my really good friends Stefanie and Niko invited me to their Serbian Christmas night.
In their country Christmas is in January and have roasted pig.
It was the first time to see whole pig on the table for me.
When I got there the pig was still in the box and when I saw that box I thought it was for tree or something.
It was that big. Having amazing food with wonderful friends is the best moment in my life:)
Thank you so much, Stefanie and Niko as always!!! :)
That was my new experience and I enjoyed a lot:)
