El Bulli ~Cooking in Progress~ at Film Forum NYC

Today I went to Film Forum to see "El Bulli ~Cooking in Progress~".
It was the documentary film about restaurant El Bulli.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BN0eshtAxYA
I saw the news that they had the last day of restaurant yesterday.

The movie was so interesting. It was not about the cooking I know. And it was happening in not in the kitchen but in the labo. So it was all about food but chemistry.
I really liked to see when they are experimenting combination of flavor, taste and texture with many kinds of ingredients. And they tried many Japanese things too which made me happy and also more interesting. For example, Yuzu, Kaki(fruit), green tea, umeboshi plum, and even oblato(which is thin layer of paper which is edible).
(when I tried to find the explanation of oblato, only in Spanish and Japanese there was in wikipedia... http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obulato which is funny...)
I liked chemistry experiment class in university so it reminded me those labo memories. Their recipe testing was exactly like that.
And while they were testing not only chefs but there were scent sommelier and other people. They spoke in Spanish, French and English. But everyone was talking about food together. That was amazing.

And after when they moved from labo to restaurant, another world was there.
There were many interns and servers. More strict mood and chemists became chefs.
All of their plates were not like food but art. Looked amazing and entertaining.
That was awesome to watch what they look like in big screen even I couldn't try the taste.
Actually there was a guest who did intern there Mr. Paras Shah (Sous Chef, La Fonda del Sol).
And he gave us some tome for Q&A and he said that even intern couldn't taste their food.
But they have lecture time for interns and good to learn what they do for just an idea for future.
If you want you can apply intern from the website of El Bulli he said...
Watching movie was enough for me but if you are interested in... lol

I wasn't sure that was what I really want to eat but I was really happy to see the passion for food in this film and the possibility of food. All of chefs were so different but they were so serious and at the same time they were enjoying their job. That is what we need whatever you do I think...

Last time I went to Film Forum I watched "Kings of Pastry" and tonight was "El Bulli"... I think I have foodie connection with this theater... :)

There was long line even it was 30 min before.

I tried to go the day before but it was sold out so I took the ticket for tonight.
But also tonight it was sold out again... !!!

He was the guest chef...

After movie I went to Washington square... it was nice night:)
