"Haru's journey" 「春との旅」 at Japan Society

Last night I went to Japan Society again to watch "Haru's journey". (Japanese title is "Haru tono tabi")
Fortunately the director Masahiro Kobayashi was there for the guest. So we could listen to him before and after the movie.

First he explained that he shot this movie in Kesenuma, Miyagi in Japan. And it was the place got the earthquake. So the view in this movie is not existed anymore... He said that sometimes there were chances to show this movie not because of this story but because of the earthquake. So it was hard for him to just be happy for those chances to show his movies to many people.

Here is the link of this movie. (I am sorry that I couldn't find this movie with English subtitles)

This is the story of Grandpa and his grand daughter.
It wasn't surprising or fancy movie like Hollywood movie but that's why this movie has good atmosphere and was strong. Also the music made me cry a lot. This view and music, this relationship between Grandpa and Haru, Grandpa and his brothers and sister and Haru and her father.... Everything made this film delicate and deep I think. Also I enjoyed this movie with English subtitle too. It was interesting to read in different language. And and and... I enjoyed a lot with when they eat!!! Eating is important anytime!!! And what they had were all so Japanese!!

And after the movie he told us how they shot this movie.
First, Tatsuya Nakadai who played grandpa tried to be friendly with Eri Tokunaga who played his grand daughter. So he asked her to go out to get some sushi. But this director Masahiro Kobayashi told him not to be friendly to her because they needed to be tense in the movie. So they just saw each other only while in the shooting and they tried to talk as less as possible... lol
Also he said that he started to plan this movie 10 years ago but he couldn't get enough fund at that time but he wrote letter to Tatsuya Nakadai to ask him to be grandpa and when he said "yes" 8 years ago finally this movie started to move...

And at last there was the time for audience to give him some questions and one of us asked him why he picked the English title "Haru's journey" instead of "Journey with Haru" (Japanese title "Haru tono tabi" ="Journey with "Haru") then what he answered us first was "He didn't care about title"... lol
But there were some reasons of course:) He thought "Haru's journey" was more straight and it was closer than "Journey with Haru" even in Japanese but he thought the sound of "Haru TO no tabi" was more beautiful than "Haru NO tabi" in Japanese. So he picked this title in Japanese and for English title he used the straight one "Haru's journey".
Always when I saw some movies which has different meaning of title in Japanese and English, I felt strange or weird but it was the first time to hear how they choose name in different language. So it was really interesting!!!

Anyway, I enjoyed this movie so much and also it was so lucky to see the director Masahiro Kobayashi himself!!! I recommend you to watch this movie when you have chance:) But also I suggest you to bring kleenex with you too:)
