Step up to the plate, "Entre les Bras"

Tonight I went to see this documentary movie.
"Step up to the plate"
"Entre les Bras"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-v49lmcs7tA
It was just so amazing!!! I enjoyed too much and I couldn't stop smiling after I saw this movie.
This is the story between father and son in the three stars restaurant.
Michel Bras
http://www.bras.fr
I've heard about how their food was amazing before and there is one of their restaurants in Japan too.
But when I see the process of how they create menu was so interesting.
And especially when they went to Japan and used all Japanese ingredients and made original plate, it was so funny!! I wasn't sure it tastes good or not... no I'm sure it tastes good but I couldn't imagine... but as Japanese I guess I want to have more the "french" food in French restaurant in Japan but whatever... It was amazing!!!
Their idea was just so unique. And they develop it a little by little.
Also the relationship between father and son, and grandson... all the family... it was so sweet.
And the view there was so amazing. Country side in France, food in the nature...
Ahhhh, I wish I could visit there someday.
This movie is highly recommended, of course for foodies but also for just everyone!!
When I heard about this movie, I thought it might be French version of "Jiro dreams of sushi" but theme was the same but it was different. If you see both of them you can see the difference of cultures, nationality too. So it might be more interesting to see both of them:) Which I did!! And I enjoyed a lot.
And luckily, there was one of producers too so it was fun to hear what was not in the screen:)

Cakes from work

Sugar and Plumm

My friend took me to really cute cafe in NYC!!!
Sugar and Plumm
http://gansonyc.com
They have both sweets and savories.
And cafe space was so big!! It was surprising to have that much space in NYC!!
The sweet crepe was really chewy like they were using rice flower for it... (I'm not sure just guessing)
And we were talking about that reminded us "Yatsuhashi" which is Japanese pastry in Kyoto. haha
Also for savory crepe, I could add egg on top when you ask them. It made it more appetite!! :)
And their almond croissant was so good too!!
I took home and had later but that was what I like!!
It was late afternoon but there were many kids with their parents and having hot chocolate and doing homework... it was funny to see how luxury homework time they had!!

Sugar and Plumm

Ganso, ramen noodle in Brooklyn

Finally I could go to Ganso which is ramen noodle shop in Brooklyn with my coworker.
It's close to work but always they close at 2:30 till dinner time and I always finish work around that time so I couldn't make it.
Ganso
http://gansonyc.com
I tried Tan tan noodle and it was so good!!! Shiitake flavor was really strong so if you don't like shiitake mushroom I don't recommend but if you like, I'm sure you will addicted!!
And this veggie topping made me happy too. After this ramen I was so full!!!
I should try classic one Ganso noodle next time but I'm so happy to have good ramen noodle shop around my neighborhood!!
And it's new place so the shop was so clean and I really like there.
Now Brooklyn has so many ramen places!!!
In my opinion, in Manhattan their ramen shops are trying to make it similar to Japanese ramen noodle.
But in Brooklyn every places have original different ramen noodle so even you come from Japan it's so fun to try them!!

Thanksgiving 2012

Last week there was Thanksgiving day.
Last year after I got home I was so tired and stayed home. But this year I went to my friends' party after work...

For the dinner I made sautéed brussels sprouts and leek and sweet potato.
I didn't know "sweet potato" is Japanese thing but it was!!
Everyone didn't know about what it was. Interesting!!

After I moved here, I had 3 thanksgivings but it was my first time to have whole turkey!! It was so exciting for me:) Everyone brought dishes and all were so Thanksgiving and all so good!!!
We had so much food and ate a lot.
And "turkey makes you sleepy" was so true!! (tryptophan effect) After big meal of turkey and busy work I was so sleepy after dinner... I'm glad my home was close to my friend's house... :)
Eating, drinking, talking and laughing with amazing people is the best thing to do on Thanksgiving!!
Thank you so much everyone for joining me that night!! :)

sweet potato

Turkey!!

Roasted veggies

maple glaze carrots and cranberry sauce

wild rice salad and pomegranate and nuts salad

Food is everywhere!!

Checking how to carve the turkey!!

I think I took all of savory at once!!

And I finished!!

Then two kinds of pies!!

And finished... lol

And more wine!!!

After Sandy at One Girl Cookies

More than two weeks has past after Sandy.
Where I live was totally fine then. I didn't lose even power.
But one of our shops in Dumbo got flooded badly. The first day I saw Dawn after Sandy she said "Dumbo shop can't open for a while to fix but still there are many people with worse situation. So we are lucky to be safe." When I heard this from her, I thought how strong she was. And I'd been respecting her since I started work there but  I respected more!!!
For us, 2 days after Sandy we started to work as usual. And even we didn't have Dumbo stuff but still our holiday special orders started so we were so busy and didn't think about much how we got damaged in Dumbo. Fortunately we reopened Dumbo shop last weekend but still there were many things to be fixed.
I haven't visited there after Sandy but when I saw this video, I was so sad to see our new whop looked like this.
http://www.ny1.com/content/ny1_living/money_matters/172231/emergency-loan-program-can-help-small-businesses-recover-from-storm-damages
And let me share this website too.
http://www.gofundme.com/onegirlcookies
Now really holiday season has come, I hope we can blow away all the sandy damage with this shiny season!!

Dassara Ramen in Carroll Garden Brooklyn

Today after work I just walked down on Smith st. to find something to eat.
It was cold day and I was exhausted from crazy busy work.
And I decided to try new ramen restaurant in Carroll Garden.
Dassara
http://www.dassara.com
Before it was the restaurant called Chestnuts and I liked there.
So I was sad to see they were gone. But after a few months I found the word "ダツサラ" on the wall there. And I laughed so hard and was wondering why there was "ダツサラ"!!!
"ダツサラ" is the word "quitting business man" in Japanese.
I remember that I took this picture and put on facebook just for laughing.
And now the new Ramen restaurant called Dassara "ダッサラ" has been opened!!
So today went there to see how their ramen is dassara!!
First, on all the tables, there were tea cup of Sumo wrestlers... and I checked there is Hakuho too. So it means they are all pretty new cups!! lol
And checked menu. They have not only ramen noodle but some Korean pancake or matzo balls...
.....weird.....
And I only ordered Chicken ramen the most simple one.
And the ramen was ... really interesting.
When I tasted soup first, I got something strong spice flavor. It was the same flavor from the soup that my roommate made before... chinese soup with many spices. And I tried to figure out what they are... and my guess is Anise.. if not I'm sorry!!! But that's why it was not ramen noodle that I know!!
And that is not I'm saying I was disappointed but I was surprised and I liked it!!
If you want Japanese noodle, then it's not the place you should go but if you just want to try new things and try ramen noodle, then I recommend you:) It's just different...
Oh and for your information!! They have restroom with Toto wash-let!! haha
It's important info, right?
